On His Watch, National Wildlife Refuge System Remains Safe For All To Explore

Robert Peloquin of Las Vegas Named National Wildlife Refuge Association Employee of the Year; Event Sept. 14

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 24th, 2022

Don’t mess with the National Wildlife Refuge System (Refuge System). If you do, Federal Wildlife Officer Robert Peloquin of Las Vegas is there to set you straight, with education, awareness, and dignity. For his 20 years of service at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex (DNWRC), dedication to the Refuge System, and record of accomplishments, Robert was recently named the National Wildlife Refuge Association’s Employee of the Year.

The 2022 Wildlife Refuge Awards dinner will take place on Wednesday, September 14, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC at 6 p.m. Media is welcome to attend and cover the program.

“Rob has worked for the Refuge System for almost 20 years and is one of the most dedicated and passionate employees I have worked with,” said Kevin DesRoberts, Project Leader in Nevada. “He has worked countless extra hours over many years protecting resources on the DNWRC and beyond and fostering understanding, appreciation, and support for the Refuge System with the public and our partners.”

Some of Rod’s accomplishments include:

  • Improving all facets of refuge management, especially protecting and managing natural and cultural resources, providing opportunities for safe wildlife-associated activities and recreation, and fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for a diverse public.

  • Protecting resources and helping visitors learn about and appreciate the refuges, the Refuge System, and the species they protect.

  • Developing and sustaining long-term relationships with law enforcement agencies has been critical to ensuring the safety of refuge staff and visitors, security of refuge facilities, and protection of refuge resources. These relationships include the four SNAP agencies, County Sherriff’s departments, and Nevada Highway Patrol and Game Wardens.
