One of the oldest National Wildlife Refuges, St. Marks NWR was established in 1931 as a habitat for wintering birds.

St. Marks NWR is over 80,000 acres and is located in the northwest Florida panhandle, along the Gulf Coast. Its habitats span from coastal marshes to islands to estuaries.
