Protect Our Wildlife: Urge Your Members of Congress to Join the Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus

We need your voice to protect our national wildlife refuges. The National Wildlife Refuge System is facing a crisis. Years of chronic underfunding and, as a result, understaffing have hampered its ability to protect the precious ecosystems and wildlife we all cherish.

Here’s the grim reality:

A 10% cut to the Refuge System's operating and maintenance budget, passed as part of the House of Representatives' fiscal year 2024 Interior Appropriations bill, will further limit the Refuge System’s ability to manage habitats, maintain facilities, and provide essential visitor services. Continuing resolutions, short-term funding measures that have become commonplace in recent years create uncertainty and instability for the Refuge System. Continuing resolutions make long-term planning and resource management nearly impossible, hindering the ability to effectively protect and conserve critical habitats and wildlife populations. These challenges threaten the very essence of the Refuge System. From the remote islands of the Pacific to the rocky coastline of Maine, these diverse landscapes support countless species and provide invaluable recreational opportunities for millions of people looking to connect with nature.

But there is hope!

The bipartisan Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus (CWRC) in the U.S. House of Representatives dedicates its work to protecting and strengthening the National Wildlife Refuge System. By joining the CWRC, your Representatives can:

  • Advocate for adequate funding

  • Support strategic growth

  • Promote beneficial legislation

  • Educate their colleagues

Take action now! Your voice matters! By contacting your Representatives and raising awareness, you can help ensure that the National Wildlife Refuge System flourishes for generations to come.

Thank you for your commitment to conservation and the protection of our natural world.
