Spring Festival Is ON for Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges and Alaska Maritime NWR— Alaska
Submitted by Melanie Dufour
The Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge welcome local Alaskans, visitors, and of course, shorebirds back to Kachemak Bay every year to mark this favorite springtime celebration, the Shorebird Festival. Our Festival continues to be a homegrown success in its 29th year because of local involvement, protected lands, and passionate birders.
YES, it is happening, yes, it will be a bit different. The Shorebird Committee has planned a 'hybrid' Festival for 2021—that is, both live and virtual. We've all learned so much about how to hold live events safely and reach even more people with a virtual platform as well. The keynote speakers and workshops that will be offered will be educational, inspirational, and fun for people of ALL ages and abilities. The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival continues to offer guided events showcasing the wonder of the shorebirds’ migration and the awe-inspiring landscape of Kachemak Bay to folks from near and far. The event will be held May 5 – 9. To join these Friends in celebrating their vibrant community, birds, public lands, arts, and ecosystems, click here to register.
