Refuge Association Assists in Cambalache Dam Removal

The Refuge Association has been instrumental in assisting USFWS with the Cambalache Dam removal in Puerto Rico.  The removal of the dam will benefit conservation of the Río Grande de Arecibo.

“Removal of the Cambalache Dam is a critical step towards connecting and restoring the natural flow, beauty and aquatic biodiversity of the Río Grande de Arecibo.  This project is in line with the Department of Interior’s Secretarial priorities to foster partnerships to achieve balanced stewardship and use of our public lands, and promotes the conservation of our land and water resources.”

-Leopoldo Miranda, Regional Director for the Service’s Southeast Region.
