The Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, also known as the Federal Duck Stamp, was born in the dust bowl days when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act into law in 1934. Since the Stamp’s creation, sales have raised over $950 million to support clean water, flood control, and outdoor recreation. This revenue has also been used to purchase or lease nearly 6 million acres of wetland habitat in the National Wildlife Refuge System. As a result, countless waterfowl and other birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians have prospered due to the acreage obtained. An estimated one third of America’s endangered and threatened species find food or shelter in refuges established using Federal Duck Stamp dollars.

The Federal Duck Stamp is the longest-running single themed U.S. stamp, making them perfect items for conservationists and stamp collectors worldwide, and possession of a stamp provides provide free entrance into any national wildlife refuge, creating countless opportunities to explore some of our nation’s most treasured wildlife habitats. When signed across the front, the stamp serves as your federal waterfowl hunting license.
