A seabird watching event on the beach at Haystack Rock. Participants should see Tufted Puffins, Common Murres, Pigeon Guillemonts, Pelagic Cormorants, Western Gulls and Black Oystercatchers that all nest at the Rock. In addition, Harlequin Ducks, Brown Pelicans, Peregrine Falcons and Bald Eagles can frequently be seen. Extensive tidepools can be explored and trained interpreters will deliver presentations on the geology of the 235' high monolith and the abundant marine life in the protected Marine Garden.

In cooperation with the Eastern Shore of Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the refuge will be helping host a wonderful weekend for lovers of birds and other critters. The festival occurs during the height of the fall migration of over 10 million birds along Virginia's Eastern Shore.
Tours are by foot, car, bus, boat, and kayak and start with the first morning light and are still going for the owl hoots after dark. It is a time to visit many government and private lands throughout the peninsula normally not open to the public and share your enthusiasm with skilled leaders and other lovers of the outdoors.
